On 23 November 1997, Meghnaghat Power Company Limited was formed as a private limited company under the Companies Act 1994. Bangladesh Power Development Board runs this company under the Power Sector Reform of the Government of Bangladesh.
By conduct on 16 February 2004, Meghnaghat Power Company Limited (MPCL) was changed to Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited (EGCB). EGCB was transformed from a private limited company to a public limited company on 15 January 2009. At present, the authorized capital of the company BDT is 5,000 (five thousand).

EGCB Project Details
From the history of the emergence of Bangladesh, it has tried to develop its socioeconomic development. For the implementation, power is a crying need element. But the country has lacked in power. So it needs to set up a power generation plant. Meghnaghat Power Company Limited was formed on 23 November 1997 as a privately owned company. On 16 February 2004, the company was started by the Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited (EGCB) as a public limited company.
The total investment of the plant BDT is 5000 cores. ECBS’ current full power generation capacity is 954 MW at the three power plants. Asian Development Bank (ADB), Govt. of Bangladesh & The World Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) helps implement the project.
EGCB Power Generation Details
ECB’s activities started with the implementation of construction projects for three power plants at an early stage. Among the three projects, Siddhirganj 280 MW: Picking Power Plant (PPP) on 05 February 2012, Haripur 412 MW: Combined Bicycle Power Plant (CCPP) on 08 April 2014, Siddhirganj 335 MW: CCPP’s Simple 1 Commercial power generation from the combined cycle (steam turbine) started commercially on 09 September 2019.
