Why NPCBL Was Started?

Bangladesh is a high-density populated country. The population is being benefactor when a country utilizes it perfectly. Bangladesh has many sources for her development. But it is known to all that, at present development depends on electric power. If a country created enough power then the country formed it to development. So, Bangladesh has already taken many plans to generate electricity.

The country set up many natural gases and coal-based thermal power plants. But the plant does not fill up the national grid of electricity. So the government of Bangladesh thought of an alternative option to produce electricity. Finally takes a decision to build an atomic power station.

A 125 MW nuclear power plant proposal was approved in 1980 but not built for many restrictions. Power generation using nuclear technology began almost half a century ago. More than thirty countries are using this technology in power generation.

Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited Project

NPCBL was established as a controller of Nuclear Power Generation in Bangladesh. That means NPCBL will control the whole nuclear power in the country.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

Rooppur power plant is the first-ever nuclear power plant in Bangladesh though the Bangladesh government was trying to build a nuclear power plant from 1961.

The General Contract for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction was signed on December 25, 2015, to carry out the main phase of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction.

A meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) of the Russian Federation and Bangladesh on implementing the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project was held on June 22, 2017, in Dhaka. At the meeting, some important decisions were taken on the contract related to spent nuclear fuel management, nuclear fuel supply, and operation and maintenance related to the Rooppur nuclear power plant project.

Finally, on November 4, 2018, The design and construction license of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was awarded by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority in favor of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission through a ceremony. On November 30, 2018, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first concrete casting of Unit No. 1 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

Through this, Bangladesh has embarked on the path of construction of nuclear power plants, and the country has entered the nuclear power club. It is expected that the power supply to the national grid will start from Rooppur nuclear power plant in 2023.

Future Of NPCBL

NPCBL runs under Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council. After the success starts of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, the Bangladesh Power Generation sector will start various projects of the nuclear power plants, which will control under NPCBL.

Nuclear power is the future of electricity generation as the world has used atomic power for a long time. 1972-1975, Prime Minister of independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, took the initiative to build a 200 MW nuclear power plant, and now we are here! We have started Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
