The capacity of the Payra Thermal Power Plant is 1320 MV.

Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant Project
Bangladesh-China Power Company Limited (BCPCL) sponsored the projects. Bangladesh’s North-West Power Generation Company Limited and China National Machinery Import-Export Corp are the plant’s present administrate.
All of this is under the BPDB. The gross capacity of the plant is 1320 MV, including two phages. Phage 1 is 660 MV, and Phage 2 is 660 MV. In 2020 Payra Thermal Power Plant started its commercial journey.

North-West Power Generation Company Limited and China National Machinery Import-Export Corp built Payra Power Plant under the Bangladesh Government act. The plant was built on a riverbank with concrete, iron, and other materials. The river is beneficial for transporting electricity-producing raw materials efficiently. The total area of the plant is 397-hectare. The plant consists of two units, each with a capacity of 650 MW.

Bangladesh has some natural coal sources, but it is not enough for the national demand. So, every year a considerable amount of coal is needed to import from abroad to produce electricity through the thermal power system. Bangladesh imports coal for Payra Thermal Power Plant from Indonesia by sheep because coal is the main element of the thermal power system.
