Step-Down Transformer Voltage

Step-Down Transformer Voltage

The transformer is a device that can help transmit electricity from one place to another. It also has other aspects too. It is used to measure the high voltage for safety and many other reasons which don’t say to finish.  A step-down transformer that can decrease input voltage to the output.

The voltage of Step-Down Transformer

Power generation stations generate low voltage electricity. And it is not capable of transmitting from the station to the distribution center. For this reason, a voltage increasing transformer is used for increasing voltage. It can make the voltage from 700 volts to 33kV.

But the residential or commercial connection needs to be 220V to 250V. So it needs to decrease the 33kV voltage to the usable range from 220V to 250V. A step-down transformer can solve this problem. It is used to reduce the voltage.

This transformer works in the principle of Np/Ns=Vp/Vs=Is/Ip through the medium of IMF (electromagnetic force). In a step-down transformer, there is always the primary windings are more significant than the secondary windings. The functional equation is Np>Ns. Here Np represents the primary coil turn number, and the Ns represents the secondary coil turn number.

Here it alphabetic sign represents

  • Np= Primary windings
  • Ns= Secondary windings
  • Vp= Primary voltage
  • Vs= Secondary voltage
  • Is= Secondary current
  • Ip= Primary current

The step-down transformer is not dependent on the current and frequency. It can change the voltage by the primary windings and the primary voltage value. The output voltage is always less than the primary voltage in this transformer.
