Tidal Power Plant In Bangladesh

Tidal Power Plant In Bangladesh: History And Possibiities

Tidal Power Station was first installed in France in 1966. Through 10 turbines in 2011, South Korea set up the world’s biggest 254 MV Tidal power station. The estimated tidal electricity generation among the whole world will rise to 16% within 2021. Scientifically proved that water is 832 times denser than air.

So, now water is going to be a potential source of power generation, and marine technologies of electricity generation are increasing day by day. By using different methods of ocean water, we can generate electricity like a tidal barrage, tidal fence, tidal turbine, etc.

An Overview Of The Tidal Power Plant

Mineral resources are not renewable, and they will run out day by day. Every year a lot amount of mineral assets are used to generate power and for other purposes. If it continues to be used in this way, it will end in the next few years. The uses of mineral assets are harmful to our ecosystem and create a disbalance in our world’s climate. So, scientists have taken an alternative way to generate power without mineral assets.

Many of the systems Tidal power plant project is one. Only a country situated on the sea coast can materialize the tidal power plant quickly. A tidal power plant means building a long dam around the nearby coastal water into the sea. It is an expensive project than a windmill, geothermal electricity, thermal electricity, and others.

It was also tough to maintain and harmful to marine ecology. Generally, tidal power generation is so far between residents. For this reason, it increases transmission losses and transmission costs. Although it has some restrictions and is not yet widely used, it has become a potential source of future electricity.

Tides are more predictable than the wind and the sun because it is created by the attraction on earth of the moon and sun in a specific period. When flow tide occurs, the dam is filled with incoming water by some door, and when it goes out, it systematically spins waterwheels, and this time, turbines create electricity.

It is the central theme to generate electricity by the tidal power plant. In the 19th century, some Atlantic coast North American countries and European countries produced that power by using this method.

Working Process Of The Tidal Power Plant

The working of the tidal power plant process is very easy. When high tide occurs, the water rises to the level of normal water of the sea, and this time, containers (Dam) store the water, and it can be discharged during ebb tide. Ebbtide means when the water level goes below the average water level. Both high and ebb tidewater spins the turbines and generates electricity.

Turbine

A turbine is a machine of a rotary mechanical device for producing continuous energy by a wheel or rotor from a fast-moving flow of fluid, steam, gas, or air. When a turbine is combined with a generator, it can generate electrical power.

Generator

It is an electrical device that can convert motive power into electrical power by its internal circuit. A tidal turbine connects with a generator when the tidal turbine spinning by the flow of water, then the generator creates electrical power.

Tidal Powerplant in Bangladesh

In the future, the power crisis will be a common problem worldwide. Bangladesh is not out of this crisis. The government is trying to solve this problem and find an alternative way. This way meets the power crisis contemporarily, not permanently.

So, the government is looking for a permanent way of source that can solve this problem permanently because it is the top priority issue of the present government. Renewable energies can help to reduce this problem. Solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, etc., are examples of renewable energy.

Geographically Bangladesh is situated in the coastal basin of the Bay of Bengal. The tidal power plant is more predictable among all of these renewable sources. If Bangladesh can utilize the potential source of tidal power, it can help develop our socio-economic condition and reduce the load shedding problem. The Department of Hydrography of The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has recorded the tidal data.

Environmental Concern

Although tidal power generation is sustainable to protect the world’s environment, it has limitations. Towards the tidal barrage and behind the barrage of the sea’s ecosystem are faced with many problems, and that ecosystem might be gradually changed. Marine life can affect by tidal power.

Swimming sea life can accidentally kill by rotating blades of turbines. Operational lubricants used in generators, turbines, or any other parts of the system may be harmful to marine ecology. Saltwater may damage the metal part of the tidal system.
