The transformer is a static device. It can work restlessly. There are many kinds of transformers. Some of these are used to increase and decrease the voltage from the primary and the secondary windings. Sometimes it’s very important to measure the voltage in the high transmission line or the low transmission line.

None of the devices can be able to measure high voltage. So high voltage has to be converted to low voltage. For this, a voltmeter is used along with a voltage transformer. It can determine the value of low voltage by calculating high voltage.

There are many kinds of voltage transformers. All of them are work with the same basics. It is mainly used to decrease the voltage. The circuit diagram of voltage transformers are given below:

The number of primary winding turns in a potential transformer is higher than that of the secondary winding. So if the voltage is high in the primary, it is low in the secondary, so it is convenient to measure the voltage.

Parallel to the secondary winding is given across the voltmeter through which the high voltage is measured. The voltmeter can measure in the range from 0 to 120 volts.
